This ornate cathedral is the largest church in the city dating back to the 13th century which took about two centuries to complete. Saint Mary’s church is a combination of different architectural styles, interiors are decorated with paintings and archives.

 

This cathedral lies on the busy plaza del angel which attracts lots of visitors and is worth a visit due to its intricate work and design which is admirable.

 

 

The silk exchange (La Lonja) showcases its finest Gothic Architecture structure where the Valencian silk was traded with merchants. This iconic building is located right in the centre of the city in front of the central market is a three-sectioned building along with an orange garden which remains the most famous one.

 

The centre of the building Sala De Contratacion was used for signing contracts and the exciting columns holding the building are worth capturing. There’s a small chapel, the taula – used for transactions, upper two floors were used as a prison for debtors who couldn’t pay back and were sentenced by tribunal.

 

Mercado Central is the oldest running European market open all days and closed on Sundays. It’s a closed marketplace with beautiful stained windows selling fruits, vegetables, gifts, souvenirs. It's an interesting place to soak up into the lives of locals and enjoy tapas and drinks.

 

Valencia has a long stretch of white and golden sandy beaches almost about 20kms. Travelers can relax under the sunbed, swim, enjoy adventurous water sports, stroll at the beach, chill at restaurants and cafes at the promenade. Some of the famous beaches of Valencia are La Malvarossa, La Albufera, El Cabanyal, La Arenas, La Marina, Pinedo Pueblo, etc, and are easily accessible from the city.

 

One of the largest and wide green space urban parks running 9kms in Spain which was once a riverbed now brags footpaths, bridges, leisure, and sports areas located near the city of arts and science, oceanographic and Bioparc. The city of arts and science is the most visited spot in Valencia as it’s an entertainment complex showcasing cultural and scientific exhibitions. Oceanographic as well lies within this complexis an aquarium (largest in Europe) devoted for marine environments & ecosystems making it super interesting for kids to explore the marine life and related environments. There’s also an underwater restaurant where you can dine for a different experience but need to pre-book it to avoid disappointments.

 

Bioparc is a known Zoo that holds the concept of showcasing animals in similar surroundings as their native ecosystems. These multi-species of animals in their habitat are an unbeatable experience for visitors to enjoy eg - One would feel they are in Africa when they come across the African Habitat animals. This animal park would excite kids and adults. Valencia fits well for family travelers.

 

La Tomatina Festival gained popularity in India after the movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” and has become one of the dream places for tourists to visit. La Tomatina takes place annually in August at Bunol which is around a half an hour drive from Valencia. It’s an exhilarating harmless giant tomato fight on the streets participated by thousands of people all over the world.

 

It’s recommended to pre-purchase the tickets to avoid any chaos and disappointments. They also hold an official afterparty and the tickets would range accordingly if you wish to attend the same.
