It’s an active volcanic crater of the caldera and some cruises take you to this active volcanic site. One can hike on the crater to reach the top of the volcano to get some of the best views of the active volcano and the Aegean Sea. Those with walking difficulty and health issues should avoid the hike to the crater as it’s a little steep and rugged.

The popular red beach has an excellent setting with red volcanic sands along with a spectacular red cliff wall as a backdrop. If you visit during early spring or autumn you would rather find it empty but it gets packed and flocked with tourists in summer.
