The national historical art gallery in the capital city of Slovenia displays the largest visual art collection from medieval times till the 20th century comprising works of Slovenian and European Artists.

 

It holds medieval sacred art with artworks by Baroque artists, neoclassical paintings, and other famous masterpieces. It also has one of the largest pieces of Baroque art – The Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers in Ljubljana by Francesco Robba.

 

It’s a traditional market which has indoor and outdoor space and a meeting place for locals to have fun together. One can purchase fresh veggies and fruits, meat products, bread & pastries, and restaurants. They are also supplemented by street food kiosks.

 

Jože Plečnik was a Slovenian architect having an impact on the modern architecture of Ljubljana’s cityscape and few other European cities. His house showcases permanent exhibits of his work and it's kept exactly the way it was when he used to live here. If you’re an art lover it’s the place you need to check out.

 

It’s one of the central squares of the city surrounded by famed landmarks with a huge open place along with a peaceful leafy city park. It also serves as the venue for national celebrations and concerts. Stroll around to view architectural masterpieces around the square and the park gives you a good picnic feel.

 

This Roman Catholic Church isn’t that big but it's pretty inside with its Baroque theme and paintings. It has an impressive altar which was designed by Francesco Robba and there are beautiful paintings on both sides of the altar. This church is a bit different from other churches with its unusual architecture. While walking across congress square one might not miss it at all.

 

Preseren Square is the central square of the city and a part of the old town’s pedestrian area and the venue for Ljubljana carnival, festivals, concerts, sports, political and protest events. Locals and tourists hang out here to socialize as it's lively with even street musicians entertaining the crowd around.

 

From here tourists can notice all possible landmarks of the city and it boasts a perfect place to click pictures with beautiful views and backdrop.

 

By night-time, the square becomes lit with its mesmerizing views and people flock on to the cafes and restaurants to grab delicious meals and drinks.

 

It’s a group of three bridges within a few meters of each other perfectly lying within the heart of Ljubljana City and connecting the historic old quarter with the modern city. It was designed with a lot of influence further giving it a Venetian look. It's small and yet pretty with its street entertainment and the most photographed tourist attraction.

 

Dragon bridge is adorned with statues of a Slovene national emblem “Dragons” and is the most notable feature of Ljubljana. A trip isn’t complete without taking pictures with these beautiful dragons. Stroll across this fairytale 4-dragons bridge appreciating its craftsmanship as they look strikingly real, built from asphalt is a unique creation serving as a perfect example of Art Nouveau architecture.

 

There’s a legend that says when a virgin crosses the bridge a dragon will twitch its tail – though no one has seen it yet.

 

It’s an iconic landmark perched on the top of the hill to marvel at the sparkling city below. Tourists can take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle and then climb up to the clock tower for stunning views of the city.

 

The castle hosts a museum exhibition on Slovenian history, a puppet museum, historical rooms such as the chapel of St. George, a prison, and a video presentation room called Virtual Castle.

 

Travelers can enjoy a self-guided tour of the castle by selecting the audio guide option. Ljubljana Castle dominates the skyline of the city’s old town and is a beauty in itself which is worth admiring.

 

Ljubljana’s town hall reflects Venetian architectural influence. It’s where the government’s power resides located right in front of the Robba Fountain.

 

It also features exhibition spaces showcasing projects done by the municipality. The town square is a major square of the capital. Only on Saturdays, they have guided tours wherein they show meeting halls and presentations of Ljubljana’s history else travelers need to do a self-guided tour.

 

Take a tourist boat ride along the Ljubljanica river to experience the city’s facades, picturesque bridges, and other beautiful sights from a different perspective. It’s a relaxing way to explore the city’s sights.

 

This train takes you through an attractive circular tourist trail that connects major landmarks from the city center to the Ljubljana castle. The passengers can get off to certain stops to visit National Gallery or other sights and the final stop is at Town Hall. The urban electric train provides you with a fun, frolicking, and educational experience. It’s a suitable way to explore the city for mobility-impaired travelers.

 

It’s an altogether different experience for visitors as this would include an introductory stand-up paddling course led by a certified instructor who would explain to you the basics and later travelers can join him on the paddling trip to the city center. It’s a fun watersport, stand-up paddling on a surfboard that has recently gained popularity.

 

It’s the only distillery in Ljubljana offering its visitors a unique insight into how gin and whiskey are made. One shall learn the history of the distilling and production process as well as try various types of gin and whiskey. Liquor lovers would love this experience.
