Konya is a wonderful central Anatolian city located on the ancient silk road which was used by traders in ancient times. Konya is the city of spirituality, historical remains, cultural landscapes, and values with natural beauty.

Konya is a known city for its notable Islamic scholars and specifically Rumi for his cultural works. One can visit Konya on the way if they opt for a drive via the ancient silk route from Cappadocia to Kusadasi and other destinations like Antalya, Bodrum, etc. Most tourists pass through Konya to visit the Mevlana Museum and the tomb of Mevlana Rumi.

Sightseeing

Mevlana Museum is an iconic landmark of Konya and complex that is home to the tomb of spiritual leader and Philosopher Mevlana Rumi. Inside the complex, you will come across the Mausoleum which is a devotional worship place, the tomb of Rumi just below the green dome, dervish tekke (lodge) of the whirling dervish sect of Sufism, Semahane where the ceremonies were performed, dervish cells where the Sufi followers lived which now exhibits their relics, clothing, calligraphy and the lodge kitchen.

This large complex also displays a vast collection of artifacts belonging to Mevlana and other spiritual relics including the Quran. In summers on Thursday nights, there are whirling dervish performances held by the actual Sufi dervishes which becomes an interesting chance to view the authentic performance for free. In general, this is an impressive place to visit to understand the spiritual lives and doings of the Sufi leaders.
