Sightseeing

Experience the largest lava cave in Asia that is a breathtaking natural wonder which is one of the 3 UNESCO heritage sites in Jeju. Take a walk through this magnificent cave and its tunnels and pathways to view the spectacular formations it offers.

The entrance to the cave is through the steep wooden staircase and later guiding you to the walkway which is usually wet due to its cave atmosphere and it’s a good amount of walk (about 45mins as it's 1km one way) to view the wonderful stalagmites.

The highlight of this cave is the Turtle Rock as its turtle-like shape itself represents Jeju Island. Due to its dim lighting taking photos becomes a challenge.

Also known as Sunrise Peak and is a must-see attraction in Jeju. “Seongsan” means a hill that can probably pass a castle & “Ilchulbong” means a mountaintop to witness the sunrise. It’s a huge crater that has risen from the ocean bed due to volcanic eruption and is one of the famous geographical features to admire.

The views from the mountaintop are incredible but it isn’t easy to climb as they have a steep slope with huge stairs so make sure to keep yourself hydrated and the ones who are fit should opt for it. The first 2 parts are relatively simpler with flat ground and well-paved steps, 3rd part is where the steps start getting narrow and steeper and the 4th part is relatively difficult as the slope steepness increases.

The descending trail is easier with beautiful sights to view. The good part is that they have resting areas between the trails and even washrooms making it easier for people to climb. Visitors mainly hike up the trail to witness the sunrise with its mesmerizing views that is a sight to behold. Also, make sure to carry a jacket since it can get windy depending on the season of your travel.

At the left end of Seongsan Ilchulbong, there are Jeju woman divers often referred to as “Haenyeos” who perform a diving show for free. They are a group of old women divers (mostly in their 80’s) who dive without proper equipment - without an oxygen tank and mask into the seabed to catch seafood.

They are trained to hold their breath for a longer time and some can hold up to 3 minutes or more. You can catch them in action around 1.30 or 3.00 pm once you’re back from your hike to the crater. One can even buy the raw seafood caught by the divers.

It’s a long black sand beach in Seogwipo with pretty views of the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak and the coast. It's even prettier if one wants to capture sunrise and sunset by walking along the coast. Sometimes people even ride horses here.

Seongeup Folk Village is located at the foot of Halla Mountain and was a former provincial capital which is now preserved in its cultural form of rock-walled and thatched roofed houses.

At the entrance of the village, you would find sticks placed outside the door indicating whether the owner is at home or out for work. For eg - If there are 3 sticks then the owner is out for a long time and if he is home then all sticks are down.

One would understand the past of Jeju island and their lifestyle during the olden times and certain pots, baskets, and few other things are kept for viewers to check and even black pig which is famous in Jeju. This village showcases the unique culture of Jeju and its traditional restrooms that are the characteristics of Jeju Folk Culture. Towards the end of the tour they sales pitch for medicinal drinks, horse creams, etc which isn’t recommended to buy though but it's one’s personal choice.
